Introducing the Atlantic Coast DX & Contest Group: Atlantic Canada's Premier Amateur Radio Community
Amateur radio has long been a source of adventure, learning, and friendship across the globe. This spirit is alive and well in Atlantic Canada, thanks to the Atlantic Coast DX & Contest Group—a dynamic community of radio enthusiasts based in New Brunswick and welcoming members from across the Atlantic provinces.
Who We Are
The Atlantic Coast DX & Contest Group was founded by passionate hams eager to share their love of DXing and contesting. DXing, or making long-distance contacts with stations worldwide, is one of amateur radio's most exciting pursuits. Contesting offers the thrill of competition—challenging operators to make as many contacts as possible in a set period, often under demanding conditions.
But what truly sets this group apart is its inclusive, laid-back approach. There are no club dues, mandatory meetings, or formalities—just a welcoming brotherhood of amateur radio operators sharing knowledge, experiences, and encouragement.
Our Focus: DX, Contesting, and More
While DXing and contesting are at the heart of the group's activities, members also embrace the full spectrum of modern ham radio:
- DXing: Members always look for rare and distant stations, striving to log new countries and regions. Whether you're a seasoned DXer with hundreds of countries confirmed or a newcomer making your first overseas contact, you'll find plenty of advice and inspiration.
- Contesting: The group actively participates in primary international contests like CQ WPX, ARRL DX, and CQ World Wide DX. Members share tips on strategy, station setup, and operating techniques, helping each other improve scores and have more fun.
- Parks On The Air (POTA): POTA offers a unique blend of radio and adventure for those who love the outdoors. Members activate parks throughout Atlantic Canada, operating portable stations in beautiful locations and encouraging others to get involved.
- World Wide Flora & Fauna (WWFF): Similar to POTA, WWFF encourages hams to operate from protected nature areas, raising conservation awareness while enjoying the challenge of portable operation.
- Portable Ham Radio: From mountain summits to coastal beaches, the group supports all forms of portable operation, sharing equipment recommendations, operating tips, and stories from the field.
What Makes Us Different?
The Atlantic Coast DX & Contest Group is built on inclusivity. There are no membership fees or club meetings—just a shared love of amateur radio and a commitment to helping each other succeed. The group operates primarily through its active Facebook group, where members post updates, ask questions, share photos, and arrange meetups or on-air skeds.
This flexible approach means you can participate as much or as little as you like, without the pressure of formal obligations. Whether you're a casual operator or a hardcore contester, you'll find a place here.
